I built care homes in Arizona from nothing. Then I built them to run without me. Now I help other owners do the same.
I didn't start with money or a map. I started with one home, almost no direction, and a lot of long nights.
For years, I worked 16-hour days — every single day. Everything fell on me: the phone at 2 a.m., the schedules, the billing, the surveys, all of it. It was overwhelming. The business didn't run. It ran me.
We changed how we did things over and over just to get them to work. What worked in one home didn't work in the next. Every house had different staff, different members, different personalities. Growing was hard.
I wanted to quit so many times. The stress was that heavy. Then COVID hit — the hardest thing my team and I have ever been through. There were dark days when I felt lost and alone, and I didn't know what to do.
My wife carried me through those days. She believed in me when I couldn't, and she pulled me back up every time I was ready to walk away. I couldn't have done this without her.
The one thing that had to stay the same was me. I was the culture. So every day I taught my staff how I wanted it run, and I stayed consistent. I let us make mistakes — my team and me both — because we were all still learning. And slowly, that's when the systems started to make sense.
Once they did, I wrote down what worked, trained 7 directors I trust, and stepped back — on purpose.
Where it stands now
Today those Arizona care homes have grown from $0 to about $10 million a year. I oversee a team of 7 directors who run over 200 caregivers and staff across the homes — I don't work every shift. That's the whole point: it runs without me.

People ask me how I did it all the time. For years I answered for free. Now I teach it on purpose — and I do it honestly.

Straight talk about what I know
Group homes for adults with disabilities — the state calls this DDD — are my world. I know them cold. Senior assisted living I know well too, but it sits right next door to my world, not at the center of it.
So when you hit something I'm not the right person for, I'll say so — and point you to the state health office (AZ DHS) or your own advisor. I teach how the rules work in general. I never tell you what to do about your license, your audit, or your money. This is teaching, not advice.
